Course Aims
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in the theory and practice of child development to work independently and with others in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) settings.

Course Outline

  • Child development theories and their application on ECCE practice
  • Effects of a range of genetic, social, cultural and environmental factors on the holistic development of the child.
  • Research a range of theoretical perspectives in the field of behaviour management in support of the holistic development of the child.
  • Demonstrate the specialised skills needed to meet the needs of parents, children, colleagues and other stakeholders adhering to legislation and practice guidelines.
  • Organise detailed observations in support of programme planning for individual and groups of children using a range of tools.
  • Evaluate personal and team practice.
  • Identify personal learning goals and assist others in identifying learning and personal development goals.

Course Work
Project 60%, Examination Theory 40%.

Duration/Start
17 October, Tuesday and Thursday, 7pm – 10pm.

Entry Requirements
QQI Level 5 Certificate, Leaving Certificate or equivalent and/or relevant life or work experience.
