Course Aims
- Participants will develop skills and competence in using word processing software and file management techniques for organising and storing business information.
- Speed, accuracy and professional presentation in using Microsoft Word to produce business documents to a high standard will be emphasised.
- Develop personal initiative and resourcefulness in finding solutions to word processing and information management tasks.
- Develop good work practices in relation to the use of the computer, printer, file management and materials.
- Develop competence in formatting and editing documents, inserting objects, document layouts, page layouts, etc.
Course Outline
Learners who successfully complete this course will:
- Use the range of features of Word 2016.
- Acquire a working knowledge of Windows Operating System and efficient file management techniques
- Edit and format documents; copying, moving, replacing text; fonts, paragraphs, styles and displays
- Page setup: margins, page orientation, paper source, headers, footers
- Tabulation: left, right, decimal and leader tabs
- Page layout, print preview and printing
- Adding, inserting and deleting Autotext
- Tables: creating, editing and formatting tables
- Inserting and formatting pictures
- Professional layout of business letters, agenda, minutes, memorandums, reports
- Create databases in MS Word: work with fields and records
- Mail merge letters, labels and envelopes
- Develop proficiency in business English syntax and grammar
- Proofreading, correction, working with manuscripts.
Course Work
Assessment will be by a combination of assignments and an examination.
Entry Requirement
QQI Level 4, Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualifications and/or life or work experience.
