Course Aims and Career Opportunities

  • The demand for qualified childcare professionals has increased significantly in recent years. With this demand there is the expectation that childcare workers are trained to the highest standard in the practical, social and legal aspects of the profession.
  • This programme aims to develop participants’ knowledge, skills and understanding of best practice in early years care and education and develop the competence required to work professionally with children, parents and colleagues in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) settings.
  • Learners will gain the competence to ensure the health, safety, holistic learning, development and well-being of children 0-6 and implement health, hygiene and safety practices in the Early Childhood Care and Education Setting.
  • Skills in planning, implementing and evaluating early years curriculums will be emphasised.
  • The importance of self-reflection and taking responsibility for personal and professional development as a practitioner in the ECCE sector will be integral to the programme.
  • The programme leads to a Certificate in Early Childhood Care & Education QQI Level 5 Major Award 5M2009. Eight components must be completed in order to gain the award.
  • Successful candidates can pursue employment as practitioners in the ECCE sector or as classroom or special needs assistants. They may also progress to higher level qualifications in areas such as Early Childhood Care and Education, Social Care Practice, Social Science or Education & Training.

Entry Requirements

  • QQI Level 4 Certificate or equivalent, or be mature students qualified through relevant life or work experience.
  • Participants will require Garda Clearance which can be applied for through Rossan College.
  • Learners will have a genuine interest in the care, education and nurturing of children 0 – 6 years old and in gaining the knowledge, skills and professional approach required for this vocational area.

Course Schedule and Modules
Classes will take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 7pm – 10pm. Please see timetable for dates. Students can enrol for individual modules or the full major award as they wish. To achieve the Certificate in Early Childhood Care & Education full qualification, 8 modules must be completed:

Students who enrol on the Full Major Award pay €1650 all inclusive, with instalment plans available. Or you can choose any individual module of interest to you at a cost of €375 per module.
