Course Aims and Opportunities
Gain insights into how a professional portrait photographer works and the creative and technical skills required. You will learn camera skills; photo editing technology and how to set up a studio environment or outdoor location as well as using lighting, camera angle, facial expressions to create a mood. Bring your own camera and assemble a collection of photographic portraits throughout the course.
Of interest to anyone wishing to develop a creative hobby or those wishing to pursue a career in portrait photography, media, design, creative arts, marketing, digital technology, etc.
Participants will gain experience in working within a studio environment or on location and manage the issues arising in both.
Course Outline
- The use of camera controls and accessories to interpret portraits.
- Various lighting conditions, daylight, domestic, commercial and flashlight.
- Show how camera angle, lighting quality and facial expressions affect mood and interpretation.
- Assemble a portfolio of work suitable for presentation at interview.
- Research and evaluate assignments.
- Use darkroom and digital manipulation techniques.
- Demonstrate a variety of presentation methods.
- Understand health and safety issues.
- Show good organisational and time management skills in completing portrait assignments.
