Course Aims
- The module is designed to equip learners with knowledge of the structure and function of the human body and an understanding of the interrelationship between the systems of the body.
- Anatomy and Physiology is a mandatory module for the Nursing Studies Award and may also be included as an elective vocational module on a range of awards including the Certificate in Healthcare Support.
Course Outline
Learning outcomes are divided into 9 parts:
- Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology
- The Skeletal and Muscular Systems
- The Circulatory and Lymphatic Systems
- The Digestive System
- The Respiratory System
- The Nervous and Endocrine Systems
- The Reproductive System
- The Urinary System
- The Skin
Entry Requirements
- QQI Level 4, Leaving Certificate or Leaving Certificate Applied
- Recognised qualifications of approved overseas institutions
- Mature students with relevant work or life experience
- English language proficiency if appropriate.
Course Work
- Examination (Theory Based) 40%
- Assignments (2) 60%: Candidates will carry out investigations into two topics drawn from the 9 units of the module.
